Aligarh Muslim University to take strict action in student violence case

NEW DELHI : The Aligarh Muslim University has announced that it will take strict action against students found guilty of violence and bullying after a scuffle broke out between students at the Badminton Court in a residential hall of the university.

AMU proctor, Professor Mohd Wasim Ali said, “The University is running smoothly, classes for the first semester are going on in full swing and the examinations of the third semester are being conducted. No one will be allowed to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere”.

According to the university, in the recent clash between students, the warden and other authorities immediately reached the spot and tried to resolve the issue. The university has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter.

“Since, preventing and defusing acts of violence is the top priority of the university and we understand that physical assaults not only harm the victims, but also negatively impact their physical and psychological health; we assure that an effective time bound enquiry to ascertain the facts and circumstances will be taken to investigate the act of violence. The university authorities will follow the procedures that promote safety, and implement security of all students under threat from hooligans”, the proctor added.

Earlier in November, a friendly cricket match turned violent and a student named Sajid Husain got injured after being hit on the head and was taken to ICU. Shobhit Singh, who hit Husain with a bat, was immediately suspended and handed over to the police. While a counter case was lodged against Husain, the university had formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the issue.
