Aligarh Muslim University VC forms committee to consider resumption of offline classes

NEW DELHI: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor has formed a 12-member committee to consider reopening of university for offline classes in a phased manner, said an official notification, as per a TOI report.

The members of the committee include university registrar, finance officer, controller of examinations, dean of students’ welfare, proctor, officiating university librarian, principal of women’s college, dean of Faculty of Science, dean of Faculty of Theology, provosts of M Habib Hall and Begum Azizun Nisa Hall, and Director of Directorate of School Education.

“The Committee may consult the other concerned Deans of Faculties, Principals of colleges as per requirements,” said the official notification.

Meanwhile, Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday announced that physical classes for final-year postgraduate students will resume from March 2 and for final-year undergraduate students from mid-March. In an order, the university administration said the varsity will open in a phased manner taking into consideration the travel time of outstation students who require necessary preparation to reach Delhi, but added that the hostels will not open till COVID-19 protocols are in place.

While Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University have decided to open on a single day and in February itself, Jamia has decided to go for a phased reopening starting from March.

The Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) also started offline classes on February 15 in all its 15 campuses across the national capital.

The University of Jammu on Monday said it will reopen its campuses for students from March 1, after COVID-19-induced closure. University spokesperson Vinay Thusoo said the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by vice chancellor Manoj K Dhar and attended by all rectors, campus deans, directors, heads of departments, in-charge librarian and provost boys and girls.
