BITS Pilani launches BE in environmental and sustainability engineering, integrated MSc programme

BITS Pilani Course Launch: The environmental and sustainability engineering course is the only programme open to both PCM and PCB students, all other BE courses require PCM combination.
NEW DELHI: The Birla Institute of Technology and Science ( BITS) Pilani has launched two new programmes—BE in environmental and sustainability engineering and MSc in semiconductor and nanoscience. The BITS Pilani’s new engineering programmes aim to address the growing demand for expertise in sustainability and semiconductor technology, equipping students with industry-relevant knowledge and skills.
The new environmental and sustainability engineering course is the only BE programme at BITS Pilani which is to both PCM and PCB students. All other BITS Pilani BE programmes require PCM as a mandatory subject combination.
The newly launched BITS Pilani’s BE in environmental and sustainability programme focuses on environmental challenges, sustainability, and technological advancements. The BITS Pilani’s BE in environmental and sustainability curriculum integrates engineering, environmental science, policy, and management to develop solutions for global environmental issues.
BITS Pilani BE, MSc Programmes: Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for newly launched BITS Pilani’s BE, MSc programmes are as follows.
- Candidates are required to have completed their Class 12 from a recognized board.
- Candidates are required to have studied a minimum of five subjects, including physics, chemistry, biology or mathematics, one Language, and any additional subject beyond these four.
- Candidates are required to have secured an aggregate of 75% marks in physics, chemistry, and biology or mathematics.
- Candidates are required to have obtained at least 60% marks in each of physics, chemistry, and biology or mathematics individually.
- Students entering through the PCB stream at Class 12 level are required to possess mathematics proficiency at Class 10 level. (For BE)

The MSc in semiconductor and nanoscience provides an interdisciplinary approach combining physics, chemistry, and materials science with advanced semiconductor technology and nanofabrication. The newly launched BITS Pilani 's MSc programme emphasizes hands-on experience with cleanroom labs, semiconductor processing, and industry exposure through collaborations with companies like Intel and TSMC.
The new BITS Pilani's MSc programme curriculum includes emerging fields like AI-driven semiconductor design, quantum computing, and nanoelectronics. A strong research component allows students to work on next-generation technologies, enhancing career opportunities in semiconductor industries, nanotechnology R&D, and academia.
