Cabinet approves affiliation of 100 government, private schools with Sainik School Society

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has approved affiliation of 100 schools in government and private sector with Sainik School Society, Ministry of Defence.

“In a paradigm shift to the existing pattern of SainikSchools, the Union Cabinet chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in its meeting held today has approved the proposal for launching of affiliatedSainik Schools under SainikSchools Society, Ministry of Defence,” an official statement said.

These Schools function as an exclusive vertical which will be distinct and different from existing Sainik Schools of MoD. In the first phase, 100 affiliate partners are proposed to be drawn from States, NGOs, and private partners, the statement read.

Sainik Schools not only provide quality education but have also created history of students from humble backgrounds reaching highest levels in the Military Leadership, Administrative Services, Judicial Services and other fields such as science, technology and entrepreneurs. Therefore, there has been an ever growing demand for the opening of more new Sainik Schools.

The Cabinet has decided to set up 100 new affiliated Sainik Schools by inviting proposals from government, private schools, NGOs to apply for affiliation of existing or new schools to the Sainik Schools Society.

The interested parties can submit their proposals online at - sainikschool.ncog.gov.in. They can check salient features and qualifying criteria of the scheme; responsibilities of stakeholders, Ministry of Defence and School Management on the website.

Starting from the academic year 2022-23, around 5,000 students are expected to get admission in class 6 in such 100 affiliated Schools. Currently, the existing 33 Sainik Schools have an admission capacity of almost 3,000 students in class 6.
