CBSE, ICSE students move SC seeking online option for Class 10, 12 board exam 2022

NEW DELHI: Six students of CBSE and CISCE have moved the Supreme Court seeking an option to appear in Class 10, 12 board exams 2022 in online mode. Both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced plans to hold the CBSE Class 10, 12 and CISCE Class 10, 12 exams in offline mode.

However, it has to be noted that the ICSE had earlier given an option for students to take term 1 and 2 board exams 2022 in hybrid mode - both online and offline. The board later announced to conduct the exam only in offline mode.

The writ petition was filed challenging the decision of the CBSE and CISCE decision to hold the CBSE term 1 and semester 1 exams and ICSE and ISC exams 2022 for Class 10 and 12 in offline mode.

The petitioners feared that the board exam 2022 datesheet for major subjects which is spread over three weeks could increase the risk of Covid-19 spread.

According to the Live Law report, “It has been stated that preceding the exams for major subjects in December 2021 are the exams for minor subjects in November 2021 in physical mode further aggravating the likelihood of turning the exams for Major subjects into Super Spreader Event.”

The petitioners argued that obtaining consent without giving a choice is ex-facie arbitrary and illegal.

The petitioners have submitted that many students have reported that consent is being secured by resorting to misrepresentation and coercion, the report added.

Meanwhile, students on social media wrote demanding option to appear for board exams in online mode using hashtags #MakeTerm1Online and #MakeTerm1Hybrid.

Another student said, “And this is how people are clicking class photographs with the class teacher in the school premises after the distribution of admit cards. "Strictly following COVID protocols" #MakeTerm1Hybrid #CISCE.”

“Please ask your parents to come forward, it'll make the most difference if parents come forward, we are minors, they'll just shoo the case away and call it "minors" not allowed to involve, thus ask parents to step up,” a student posted on Twitter.
