The Delhi Government School Teachers’ Association (GSTA) has urged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to hold implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board examination 2026 evaluation and implement it from the next session.

The request from the association comes amid mixed reactions from teachers, principals and students regarding the new OSM marking system for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets. The GSTA said that implementation of mandatory online evaluation has raised serious concerns among educators.

“While modernisation and digitisation are progressive and welcome steps, implementing a fully digital evaluation system without adequate preparation and structured training presents significant practical challenges,” GSTA said in an official statement.

According to the teachers’ association, the majority of teachers have not been provided with structured and certified training in the CBSE Class 12 digital evaluation system.

'Digital proficiency still evolving in govt schools'

Expressing that the full-scale digital evaluation may affect the uniformity, consistency, and overall quality of assessment, the GSTA told the board that proper mock practice sessions have not been conducted on a wide scale, nor has systematic orientation been ensured regarding on-screen marking, digital interface handling, and technical procedures.

“It is also pertinent to mention that within government schools of Delhi, digital proficiency at the administrative level is still evolving. Many principals and officers depend upon IT Assistants for routine official IT/digital work. This indicates that system-wide IT competency has not yet matured to a level where immediate compulsory digital evaluation for all teachers would be appropriate,” it added.

The government school teachers’ group also expressed that the online evaluation should not be made compulsory for all teachers in the current session. “During the present academic session, it should be conducted only as a pilot project on a limited scale,” it said.

The group also suggested that only newly appointed teachers who have appeared for their recruitment examinations through online mode and possess relative digital familiarity may be allowed to undertake digital evaluation this year strictly on a voluntary basis.
