‘Compare and see difference’: Students claim CBSE 12th answer sheet mismatch; allege marks discrepancy

Amid the rising complaints of blurry scans and technical glitches in the re-valuation facility, CBSE has faced yet another controversy, with students taking to social media to claim that the Class 12 scanned answer sheets uploaded by the board "do not belong to them".

Vedant, a CBSE class 12 student, has posted on social media X (formerly Twitter) his CBSE physics answer sheet uploaded by the board under his roll number, “does not belong” to him.

The student has claimed that the handwriting and the answers presented in the uploaded physics copy were completely different from his own and has questioned whether his actual answer sheet had ever been evaluated.

'Handwriting entirely different,' claims student

He further wrote on X and said that his CBSE English and computer science answer scripts, and notes handwriting, can be compared to his physics answer sheet; they are entirely different. “Handwriting, letter formation, spacing, slant, sentence flow, everything is different from other answer scripts,” the student claimed.

He also highlighted the fact that his family, teachers, and everyone who knows his handwriting immediately noticed the difference.

“The English and Computer Science copies clearly match each other. But the Physics copy looks like it belongs to another student entirely,” the student posted on X.

The Class 12 student applied for the photocopies of his CBSE 12th board answer sheets through the CBSE’s revaluation process after he received the “unexpectedly low marks” in the physics exam.

CBSE OSM chaos

The student further questioned CBSE’s on-screen marking system and raised concerns about whether the new process is fair and transparent or not.

OSM, a digital evaluation system introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to assess board exam answer sheets. Under the new OSM system, physical answer sheets are securely scanned into digital PDFs and are evaluated by teachers on computers instead of checking physical paper copies at designated evaluation centres

“CBSE said OSM would improve transparency and fairness. But if answer sheets themselves are getting mismatched, then how are students supposed to trust this process? Students are not experiments,” the students said on X.

The student has urged CBSE to verify his original physics answer sheet and investigate whether the answer sheet was exchanged with someone else’s, and also ensure the paper is evaluated correctly, as his academic future depends on it.

‘Not a single page appears to be mine,’ another student claims

Another Class 12 student, Sanjana, posted on X claiming that her scanned copy of chemistry answer sheet does not match her handwriting for written responses. She was shocked to see 11 marks out of 70 in the theory paper and expected a much higher score.

The CBSE board has extended the last date to obtain the CBSE Class 12 answer scripts till May 25.

Students can obtain the scanned document by paying a fee of Rs 100, a substantial decrease from the previous Rs 700 charge, making the service much more affordable.

CBSE OSM portal faces technical difficulties

Recently, CBSE came under the scanner after its revaluation portal remained inaccessible. Many students claim that they are unable to access scanned copies of 12th answer sheets, submit verification requests, or apply for re-evaluation despite waiting for hours.

Notably, Union education minister Dharmenda Pradhan directed that an expert team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Kanpur will be appointed to provide technical assistance to the CBSE, after complaints were raised over technical issues in the CBSE’s result services portal.
