NEW DELHI: To contain the coronavirus outbreak, Uttar Pradesh has also put evaluation of Class 10 and Class 12 state board exam papers on hold till April 2.
The Sanskrit board exams have also been postponed.
Conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, the state board exams had ended on March 6. The announcement came late in the evening on March 17, after the UP Government had already announced it was closing all schools and colleges and postponing all exams till April 2.
Uttar Pradesh has 16 “active” cases of coronavirus infections, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Another five have been cured and discharged. India has seen a total of 147 cases so far, 130 of them active.
Evaluation postponed
A notice from UP’s principal secretary, secondary education, Aradhana Shukla, listed the decisions taken at a meeting on Tuesday. These list said: “Sanskrit Board exams postponed till 2nd April” and “evaluation of answer copies postponed till 2nd April”.
The statement also reiterated the government’s earlier decision close all schools, including those affiliated to national and international boards - CBSE, ICSE and IB - and postpone all exams, including competitive ones. The exams of boards other than the state board, however, continue as per schedule.
According to The New Indian Express , universities such as the Aligarh Muslim University have cancelled entrance and semester exams as well. And the Asian News International has reported that students in Class 8 or below will not have to write exams at all in the state.
Correction: An earlier version had attribution the update on children in Classes 8 or below to the IANS. That has not been corrected.
