Coursera translates 4,000 online courses in Hindi; launches two new programmes

Coursera has collaborated with 45 new companies and 55 educational institutions in the country.
NEW DELHI: Coursera, an online learning platform, has announced several initiatives to improve access to high-quality education in the country. The platform has translated more than 4,000 courses in Hindi, including ‘The science of well-being’ from Yale University, ‘Programming for everybody’ from the University of Michigan, and ‘What is Data Science’ from IBM.
Students can access course readings, lecture video subtitles, quizzes, assessments, peer review instructions, and discussion prompts in HIndi. Over 40 courses from top Indian educators like ‘Introduction to programming’ from BITS Pilani, ‘Leadership skills’ from IIM Ahmedabad, and ‘Trading basics’ from Indian School of Business will also be translated into 18 languages, including French, Spanish, German, and Thai, enabling India’s vision to become the global hub for education, Coursera added.
Two new programmes – Specialization in advanced digital transformation of IIM Ahmedabad and Master of Science in Information Technology of IIIT Hyderabad – has also been launched by Coursera
"India's ambition to become a US dollar 5 trillion economy depends on its ability to develop a skilled workforce and maximize its demographic dividend," said Coursera CEO Jeff Maggioncalda.
New initiatives of Coursera
Larsen and Toubro has become the first enterprise in the country to launch Coursera's GenAI Academy to provide structured digital literacy across its workforce. The library is designed to offer foundational literacy and executive education programmes from top universities and companies, including Stanford Online, Vanderbilt, DeepLearning.AI, Google Cloud, and AWS.
A GenAI-powered virtual learning assistant that provides personalized feedback, ‘Coursera coach (beta)’ has been launched for Coursera Plus subscribers to support learners with interaction in the local language.

The edutech platform has also collaborated with 45 companies, including Aditya Birla Group, Tata Power, KPIT Technologies Ltd, and Bajaj Finserv. It now has collaboration with 140 enterprise customers in the country. Coursera has also collaborated with 55 educational institutions, including XLRI Jamshedpur, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Alliance University, and Yenepoya University, bringing the total to 1,100 higher educational institutions in the country.
