NEW DELHI: The vaccination for children of the age group 15-18 years has covered about 85 per cent of students of Delhi government schools till January 21. The directorate of education (DoE) has set a target of achieving 100 per cent vaccination for eligible children by January 30.
“Although government schools are vaccinating students at a fast pace, the private schools have been vaccinating students at a very slow pace. Out of all the eligible students in private schools, only 42 per cent have been vaccinated so far till January 21 and only 57 per cent have been vaccinated in aided schools. As many as 3.5 lakh students in private schools are eligible for the COVID vaccine jab, but less than 2 lakh have received COVID vaccine shots so far”, said a statement from the office of deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia .

Sisodia stressed the necessity for eligible students to get vaccinated. “In 12 out of the 15 education districts, 85 per cent of students of Delhi government schools have been vaccinated and there are about 300 schools where 90 percent eligible students have got the jab,” he added.

Sisodia also appreciated the role teachers are playing in taking care of both the education and vaccination of students. “Vaccinating all eligible students will help in resuming offline classes. Since the Delhi COVID cases are declining and most students of the 15-18 age group have been vaccinated, a proposal may be placed before Delhi disaster management authority (DDMA) for reopening of schools,” said the statement.
