COVID-19: J&K promotes Class 1 to 9 and Class 11 students en masse

NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has decided to promote Class 11 students without conducting annual examinations due to the COVID-19 situation.
The JKBOSE notification dated April 7 said all Class 11 students of Jammu division’s summer zone and Kashmir division’s winter zone will be promoted en masse.
The Hindustan Times reported that this also applies to students from Class 1 to 9. The decision will benefit about 6 lakh students across Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision will mainly impact the students in Jammu division as in Kashmir, the examinations for Class 1-9 and 11 were completed in November-December. Only about a thousand students of Class 11 had to re-appear in one or two papers in the bi-annual examinations in March-April.
The notification also said that mass promotion will be treated as “one time exception”. However, it would be subject to the clause that all these students were otherwise eligible to be promoted.
If it is later found that if any candidate was not eligible, the JKBOSE reserves the right to cancel the promotion without any prior notice.
Regarding the issuance of certificates to the students, the notification said it will be intimated to the schools later.
Further, the JKBOSE has also extended the suspension of Class 12 paper evaluation extended till further orders.
