Final-year BTech students at IET Indore allegedly created ruckus inside Ramanujan Hostel; university says results may be withheld and fines imposed
Indore: Final-year engineering students created a ruckus and damaged property at a hostel during an alleged liquor party organised to celebrate the completion of their studies at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore early on Sunday, a varsity official said.
Videos of the incident at Ramanujan Hostel of the university's Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) have surfaced on social media. One video purportedly shows semi-nude students dancing to a Punjabi song, while other clips show them damaging plastic tables, chairs and a water tank inside the hostel premises.
Glass panes of some hostel windows were also found broken after the incident, officials said. IET director Dr Pratosh Bansal told reporters that the university learned about the incident through the videos. "These are final-year BTech students who completed their studies this year", he said. According to Bansal, the students allegedly became unruly after consuming liquor. He said the matter involving the 150-student hostel was being referred to the disciplinary committee for investigation.
"We will withhold the examination results of the students involved and impose a heavy fine on them to recover the damage caused to government property. Their parents will also be called," Bansal said. The official said employers of those engineering students who have already secured placements would also be informed about their alleged involvement in the inappropriate activities.
