Delhi Govt extends Jai Bheem Yojna to general category, offers JEE, NEET, UPSC coaching

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has expanded its Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, a scheme designed to provide free or subsidized coaching to economically disadvantaged students. Originally launched for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), the initiative has now been extended to General category students. The scheme aims to empower students from lower-income families by offering quality coaching for various competitive exams, helping them secure jobs in both public and private sectors.

The scheme offers coaching not only for public and private sector competitive examinations but also for college entrance exams. The goal is to ensure that deserving students, regardless of their socio-economic background, receive the guidance they need to pursue higher education at top institutions. The Delhi government hopes to remove financial barriers and give students the opportunity to excel in competitive examinations. "We will not let a shortage of money become a roadblock for talented students," said CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Jai Bheem Yojana: Eligibility
The scheme targets students who have completed their secondary or senior secondary education in Delhi, with an annual family income not exceeding Rs 8 lakh. General category students are required to submit an Income or EWS certificate issued by the District Magistrate’s office, while SC, ST, and OBC candidates will need to provide a caste certificate. Notably, 75% of the scheme's beneficiaries will be students from government schools in Delhi.
Exams covered under the coaching scheme
The scheme offers coaching for various competitive, entrance exams, including:

Group A and B exams by UPSC, SSC, RRBs, and judicial services

State Public Service Commission exams

Officers' grade exams in banks, insurance companies, and PSUs

College entrance exams like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), All India Pre-Medical Test (now replaced by NEET), Common Admission Test (CAT), Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), and other professional courses.

Delhi Govt Free Coaching Scheme: Funding details
Under the scheme, the Delhi government will cover 75% of the coaching fees, with students bearing the remaining 25%. However, students with a total family income of Rs 2 lakh or less will receive 100% fee coverage. The department for the welfare of SC, ST, OBC, Minorities will directly transfer the grants and stipends to the coaching institutes.
Institutions will receive the grants in two installments, with the second instalment released only after submitting a utilization certificate and satisfactory performance report. Institutions that fail to meet performance standards will not receive further funding, as per the official notice.
