‘Unfair treatment’: OBC commission asks DU VC to extend deadline to submit caste certificate

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Other Backward Classes chairman Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has written to the vice-chancellor of University of Delhi Yogesh SIngh regarding the ‘severe lack of time’ given to OBC students to submit the caste certificate for DU admission 2023.

In the letter, the chairman asked the DU VC to intervene and extend the deadline for submitting the OBC certificate.

DU teachers lodged a formal complaint against Delhi University regarding the ongoing admission process and the severe lack of time given to students for submitting their OBC certificates. “This situation has placed OBC students at a disadvantage and jeopardized their chances of fair representation and equal access to education,” the letter addressing the NCOBC chairman read.

“This treatment not only violates the principles of fairness and inclusivity but also perpetuates systemic inequalities that OBC students already face. Adequate time should be provided to every student to complete the required formalities without unnecessary stress and pressure,” the complaint letter read.

The DU teachers urged the OBC Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the issue and hold “Delhi University accountable for its failure to provide equitable treatment to OBC students”. It further said that “such actions are essential to ensure that no student is unfairly disadvantaged due to administrative shortcomings”.

The OBC commission chairman in his letter noted the limited time period given to students and how they are struggling to gather and submit the documents. He requested Yogesh Singh to extend the deadline to “alleviate the undue stress on students”.
