DU to establish a new college and facilitation centre at Fatehpur Beri

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University is going to establish a new college and facilitation centre at Bhatti Kalan Goan, Fatehpur Beri village. The name of the college is yet to be finalised, the university said in a statement.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will lay the foundation stone for the new facilitation centre on August 8. The district has provided 40 bighas land for the establishment of college and facilitation centre, as per the official statement from DU .

“Dharmendra Pradhan has kindly consented to lay the foundation stone for Facilitation Centre of a proposed college of the University of Delhi at Fatehpur Beri village on August 8 2021, on 40 bighas of land provided by the district....and to establish a college to cater to the needs and requirements of students of rural areas,” the statement from DU said.

DU to build new college

“The facilitation centre will enable the students of the University of Delhi, living in and around Bhatti Kalan Goan, to complete various administrative processes, including admission, examination etc., with ease without having to travel long distance,” the DU statement added.

Though the name of the new college is currently undecided, DU registrar Vikas Gupta had said in a press conference that they had decided to name the new college after Sushma Swaraj, the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi, according to a report by Indian Express.

He said that the decision had been conveyed to the education ministry, however, later he informed that the final decision will be taken in the Academic Council and Executive Council – statutory bodies of the University, the Indian Express report added.

Moreover, it is undecided whether the college will be co-ed or a women's college. Last year, the university had issued an official statement regarding the establishment of a new women’s college and had sought suggestions for its name, the report added.
