SC extends engineering admission deadline, says Karnataka minister: Report

Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture: Additional round of counselling for vacant BTech, BPharm, other seats will be held, said CN Ashwath Naryan
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has permitted admissions into engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, among others till December 31, announced CN Ashwath Naryan, the higher education minister, Karnataka, reported India Today.
"Previously in 2012, the apex court had ordered that the admission process for engineering courses be finished before July 31 each year.", Narayan reportedly said. According to the latest order by the SC, the seat allotment process can be extended up to December 31.
The minister further said that an additional round of counselling for the vacant seats of engineering, architecture, agricultural science, veterinary science, the pharmacy will be held.

The court had also ordered a stay on medical courses admission till the clearance of the case related to the income limit of economically backward classes (EWS) quota.
The Karnataka government has decided to file a plea before the court to permit simultaneous seat allotment for engineering and medical courses after consultation with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The Medical Counselling Committee has altered its counselling process for the all-India quota seats for both NEET UG 2021 and NEET PG 2021 candidates. NEET counselling 2021 will be held in four rounds and the seats will not be returned to the state quota after the second round of counselling.
