NEW DELHI: The eVidyaloka, an NGO dedicated to transforming rural education in India, has partnered with the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana to establish a digital classroom at Government Middle School Nakarkote, a village near the Line of Control in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the official press release, Jammu and Kashmir encounters considerable obstacles in delivering quality education due to its remote terrain and inadequate infrastructure. The region struggles with educational disparities and a lack of resources, particularly qualified teachers. In response, eVidyaloka, in partnership with the Indian Army, is tackling these challenges by implementing digital tools and innovative teaching approaches. This collaboration aims to enhance educational standards and empower students in Jammu and Kashmir.
Launched on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024, this initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide equal learning opportunities for children aged 10-15 years (5th to 10th grade) living in these remote border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The newly established digital classroom, outfitted with LED monitors and WiFi, will deliver high-quality education to students through eVidyaloka volunteers from around the globe, who will conduct online lessons in regional languages. The curriculum will encompass various subjects such as Math, Science, and English.
As per the official press release, this initiative represents the introduction of digital learning in the region, making education more engaging, interactive, and accessible. In addition to academics, the programme aims to foster personal growth, enhance critical thinking, and cultivate responsible, informed global citizens.
As of March 2024, eVidyaloka has benefited over 189,000 underprivileged students across 734 government schools in 14 states and 67 districts, providing education in eight different regional languages.
Ravichandran V, Chairperson, eVidyaloka, said, "Education is the cornerstone of progress, and by ensuring that it reaches every child, we are laying the foundations for a brighter and more progressive future for our nation. The establishment of this digital classroom, made possible only with the Indian Army's support, allows us to extend our reach into these remote locations. We are thrilled to bring equitable education and opportunities to the children of Jammu and Kashmir, helping them to break barriers and realize their full potential."
