UP 69000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment: High Court Asks Govt To Resume Counselling Process

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the June 3 single bench order halting the selection process of 69,000 assistant basic teachers in Uttar Pradesh.
Passing the order, a division bench comprising justices PK Jaiswal and D K Singh said the state government was free to continue with the selection process, keeping in mind the June 9 order of the Supreme Court by which about 37,000 posts have been kept for Siksha Mitras.
Allahabad High Court, on June 8, had reserved its order on the plea challenging the stay on the appointment of teachers. The UP Examination Regulatory Authority (ERA) had challenged the single bench order terming it ‘unwarranted and illegal’.
On rest of the posts, the state government can start counselling which had stopped on June 3 after the single bench's order, it said.
On June 3, Justice Alok Mathur of the Lucknow bench had stayed the selection process, due to uncertainty of a few questions and answers asked in the recruitment examination.
He opined that fresh scrutiny is required by the University Grants Commission as there was an 'error' in the evaluation of question papers.
The recruitment examination was held on January 6, 2019, and its result was declared on May 12, 2020.
