Hyderabad Ragging Case: 8 IFHE students arrested for physically, verbally assaulting student

HYDERABAD: Eight law students from IFHE, Hyderabad have been arrested in connection with an incident of ragging, police said on Monday.

Five were arrested earlier, three were arrested and sent to jail today, said the police. Efforts were on to nab two more students, they said. The case was booked after the video of the assault went viral on social media. 19-year-old BBA-LLB student, Himank Bansal and Dipasha Sharma, another girl student both made adverse remarks against each other's sexual preferences.

The girl shared one of the remarks that allegedly insulted a particular religion. Following this incident, a large group of students entered Bansal's campus hostel room and went on to physically and verbally assault him according to the video circulating online.

"They hit me on my abdomen, touched my genitals and forced me to eat certain chemicals. They tried to tear my clothes to make me naked while saying beat him till he dies," Bansal alleged in his detailed police report on the incident.

"After the incident, the victim approached college management but they did not react properly and alert us. Once we received the complaint based on the email sent to senior officials by the complainant, we collected information and registered a case on Friday," said Shashabad DCP Jagadishwar Reddy.

In the same case, nine members of the school administration have been booked for alleged inaction on the incident, the police said. The Shankerpally police booked a case for ragging and attempt to muder under sections 307, 323, 450, 342 506 r/w 34 of IPC, section 4 (i)(ii) of Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act.
