IGNOU CTPM Programme 2025: Candidates can register for the programme by paying a total fee of Rs 2,100. Registration is to be done online at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is inviting applications for its Certificate Programme in Teaching of Primary School Mathematics (CTPM). The programme is designed to enhance the skills of primary school teachers in mathematics instruction. Eligible candidates can register for the programme through the official portal at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
To be eligible for the programme, candidates should have passed Class 10. The programme duration ranges from six months to two years. To register for the programme, candidates will have to pay a total fee of Rs 2,100.
IGNOU Admission 2025: CTPM programme objective
The IGNOU CTPM programme aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To help primary school teachers review and adapt their mathematics teaching methods to match their students’ backgrounds.
- To build awareness among teachers about the nature of mathematics and its importance in learning.
- To revisit the process of how mathematical understanding is acquired and learned.
- To introduce teachers to interactive strategies and techniques for teaching mathematics.
- To make mathematics teaching more accessible by highlighting the importance of context and meaning in teaching concepts, processes and skills.
The 16-credit programme is divided into two core courses — Teaching of Primary School Mathematics (AMT-01) and Learning Mathematics (LMT-01) — each worth eight credits. AMT-01 covers blocks on aspects of teaching mathematics, numbers, fractions and measurement. LMT-01 focuses on approaches to learning, classroom engagement, data and chance, spatial learning, and thinking mathematically. A two-credit project component is also compulsory.

In AMT-01, 25 per cent of the marks are for the assignment, 50 per cent for the term-end exam, and 25 per cent for the project work. In LMT-01, the assignment carries 30 per cent weightage, while the term-end exam accounts for 70 per cent. To complete the programme, candidates will have to score at least 35 per cent in each component.
IGNOU term-end examination
The university conducts term-end examinations twice a year, in June and December. Candidates will have to appear for the exam after completing the IGNOU CTPM programme. If candidates do not secure the minimum passing mark of 35 per cent, they can reappear in the next term-end examination for that course, provided their registration for the programme is still valid.
