IIT Kanpur-AARDO conclude joint training programme on mitigating climate change through renewable energy

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur in collaboration with African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) conducted a training programme from November 17 to 24, 2022. The seven-day programme ended yesterday with a week filled with lectures and practical experiences.

Barefoot College International (BCI) showcased their solar energy initiatives at IIT-K on November 21, 2022. BCI runs the ‘Solar Mamas’ programme, where they educate rural women regarding solar alternatives and sustainable living. The women are taught about electrical circuitry so that they can assemble their own set of lighting systems backed by solar power.

This jointly organised programme was designed to benefit middle and senior-level executives from government departments, ministries, and agriculture engineers and scientists engaged in policy formulation, implementation, planning and appraisals among others. The primary objective of this event was to sensitise participants on using renewable energies as a tool to fight back against the impact of climate change.

IIT Kanpur, rural technology action group and medical research and technology, coordinator, Ramkumar said: "I wish all the participants to succeed in their future endeavours. This one week of interaction with all of them has helped us also to look at different perspectives. I hope the hands on training has aided the participants to understand the subject with more clarity. Let us together try to aid our governments to move towards sustainable technology. I wish all of us will collaborate with each other in the future.”

On behalf of the participants, Lengwe Felix from Zamibia, said: “I thank the organisers for making good arrangements and taking care of us for the whole of the training. We were introduced to many new concepts and we will share this with our governments and take a step towards a sustainable future.”
