NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has received more than 10,000 applications for its recently-introduced online BSc course in programming and data science, the institute announced on social media on August 8.
The institute had opened the application process on August 3. The number crossed 10,000 in just five days.
The maximum number of applications is limited to 2,50,000. The application will close once it reaches the said number or on September 15, 2020, whichever comes first, the statement from the institute had said.
The minimum eligibility for a candidate applying for the program is that they should have passed class 12 and should have had English and Mathematics in Class 10.
Earlier talking to Careers360, IIT Madras had said that the online course will be offered in three stages consisting of foundational programme, diploma programme and degree programme.
A student can exit the programme at any point and they will be given a certificate, diploma or degree based on the point at which they exit.
The programme does not call for an entrance exam and doesn't require candidates to qualify the JEE Main which engineering students in regular mode do. They can enrol on a first-come-first-serve basis and take a qualifier exam after one month to understand if they are suitable for the programme and make a decision.
