IIT Mandi startup won entrepreneurship award for developing landslide monitoring system

About 40 LMS systems were deployed by the IIT Mandi startup in the Himalayas to alert and save people's lives by early warnings in places susceptible to landslides.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi incubated startup Intiot Services won third prize for best entrepreneurship award 2022 under the Chief Minister's Startup, Innovation Project, and New Industries Scheme, Himachal Pradesh. The IIT Mandi startup received the award from Bikram Singh, Himachal Pradesh industries, transport, labour, and employment minister.

Intiot, IIT Mandi's first student-faculty-led startup received the award for developing a landslide monitoring system (LMS). It was awarded the third position amongst the top startups initiated in 2019-20, said a statement from the institute . LMS is a useful tool in identifying landslide threats in hilly terrain. As many as 40 LMS systems were deployed by the Intiot team in the Himalayas to alert and save people's lives by early warnings in places susceptible to landslides. The startup is led by four directors, Varun Dutt, associate professor, KV Uday, associate professor Praveen Kumar, PhD candidate and, Ankush Pathania, senior associate, all belonging to IIT Mandi.

"Intiot Services Pvt Ltd., took charge of commercializing the technique developed at IIT Mandi and reaching to the administration for saving lives of people in Landslides circumstances. We are currently showing adequate success in averting landslide disasters in different parts of Himachal Pradesh," said Uday.

Minister Singh while speaking about the startup ecosystem said, "The industries department should work more swiftly towards making the Startup policy more effective. Startups face several challenges after establishing themselves at various stages. Marketing their products and their servicing should be included in the new scheme."
