IIT Roorkee wins CII Most Innovative Institution Award for fifth consecutive year

IIT Roorkee was also conferred with the 10th CII Industrial IP award and Excellence for Women in STEM 2024 recently.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has received the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Most Innovative Institution Award 2024 for its “commitment to innovation and dedication to transformative innovation and societal impact”.
The award marks IIT Roorkee’s commitment towards fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem, an official statement said. Moreover, by bridging the gap between academia and industry, the institute claims to achieve new innovations that contribute to ecological and economic sustainability, aligning with Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, it added.
IIT Roorkee: CII Industrial IP Awards
IIT Roorkee was recently conferred with the 10th CII Industrial IP Awards 2024 for excellence in India's IP Ecosystem and commercialisation of technologies. It also received the CII Award of Excellence for Women in STEM.
Professor Akshay Dvivedi, dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, said: “Strong industry-academia collaboration is the cornerstone of impactful innovation. At IIT Roorkee, we continuously work to bridge this gap, ensuring our research translates into solutions that benefit society and industry alike.”

IIT Roorkee: Latest initiatives
IIT Roorkee has developed technologies that address societal challenges in areas such as disaster management, sustainability, and rural development. These innovations have made a positive impact on communities nationwide, the institute has said.
The RuTAGe Smart Village Centre (RSVC) model, developed by IIT Roorkee, is revolutionising rural development by empowering communities with user-friendly technologies. On the other hand, the CrowdEye System is leveraging advanced AI and cloud technologies to monitor and manage crowd density during large public gatherings. By providing real-time alerts and mobility data, it enhances public safety and prevents crowd-related disasters.
The institute's Strong Ground Motion Sensor, equipped with advanced MEMS-based accelerographs, supports earthquake preparedness and risk mitigation.
