This year’s exam demonstrated that chemistry can be a game-changer, with questions often drawn directly from NCERT textbooks and focusing on key concepts.
JEE Main 2025 session 1 will be conducted from January 21 to 31. Candidates aspiring to become engineers will have to appear for paper 1 (BE, BTech). The exam will comprise three sections – physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Here are five strategies to ace the chemistry section of JEE Main exam 2025, according to P Sindhura, director, Narayana Educational Institutions.
Give priority to NCERT textbooks
For JEE Main chemistry 2025, NCERT textbooks are essential for preparation. Most questions, whether from physical, organic, or inorganic chemistry, are based on the content in these books. Students are advised to focus on understanding the concepts, reactions, and mechanisms. For inorganic chemistry, it is advisable to memorise key concepts, periodic trends, and the properties of elements thoroughly.
Master reaction mechanisms and formulas
When it comes to organic chemistry, it's important to make a strong hold of the reactions. Students need to understand the step-by-step process of reactions instead of just memorising the results. Similarly, in physical chemistry, one should focus on mastering key formulas and concepts related to areas like thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, and electrochemistry. The experts advise creating a formula sheet and checking it regularly to remember them.
Practice previous year papers
Chemistry questions in JEE Main exam tend to follow old patterns. Solving JEE Main previous year question papers will give students an idea of the type of questions and the difficulty level. They'll help improve time management and highlight important topics such as coordination compounds, mole concept, and chemical bonding.
Focus on high-weightage topics
Plan your preparation around chapters having a high weightage. In physical chemistry, give preference to electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and states of matter. For organic chemistry, prioritise general organic chemistry (GOC), aldehydes and ketones, and biomolecules. In inorganic chemistry, give more time to coordination chemistry, periodic table trends, and chemical bonding.
Take mock tests and revise regularly
Mock tests are vital for evaluating your JEE Main preparation. Take mock tests regularly to improve both speed and accuracy. After each test, analyse your errors and work on your weaknesses. Also, ensure to keep revising regularly to retain information. Chemistry requires both memorisation and conceptual understanding, so consistent revision is the key to keep a grasp on concepts.
