JMI vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar receives Lifetime Achievement Award-Academia

JMI VC Najma Akhtar was selected for the award for her efforts to connect education to employment. The university is ranked third in NIRF 2023.
NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar was conferred with 'Lifetime Achievement Award-Academia'. The award was presented by Padma Vibhushan awardee Raghunath Anant Mashelkar at the Grand Conference and Award Function titled "Making India Employable" organised by TeamLease EdTech.
“A strong jury panel comprising of educationists and industry experts selected her for the award for her great efforts to connect education to employment,” the university said.
The 'Making India Employable Awards' is organised to celebrate individualistic excellence, innovation and real-world impact in the fields of education, employability and skilling. “These awards are bestowed on the very best of the best who showcase exemplary contributions towards the common goal of Making India Employable.”
In May, the University Placement Cell (UPC) conducted a job cum internship fair “Career Connect” called Job Utsav wherein 2,000 students from different departments registered. In the first round, 500 students were selected for further rounds of the fair.
During the JMI centenary celebration in July, the vice-chancellor said that the university is going to start a new medical college and is also planning an international campus in the middle-east. The government gave its nod after Najma Akhtar on several occasions requested President Droupadi Murmu , Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Centre to grant permission to establish a medical college.
Under her leadership, JMI retained third position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF 2023) rankings for the university category for the second consecutive year.
In other news, a six-member team comprising engineering students of JMI won the Kavach 2023 , a 36-hour cyber security hackathon, conducted by the ministry of home affairs and ministry of education from August 8 to 9.
The university also congratulated three alumni, Amit Kumar Bhardwaj, Mohmmad Kashif and Areeb Ahmad, who were part of ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 team that made history by soft landing on moon’s south pole
