JNCASR Bengaluru announces BS (Research)-PhD with multiple exit options; admission via JAM, CUET 2026

JNCASR Admissions: Candidates will be short-listed for an in-person interview on the basis of their JAM, CUET, or JNCASR 2026 entrance exam and academic performance.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru, has announced a BS (Research) PhD programme in Interdisciplinary Sciences. Sharing the announcement in a post on X, former University Grants Commission chairperson, M Jagadesh Kumar wrote: "The following is how our universities can offer programmes to strengthen foundational research in our country. Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru is offering a New Flagship Academic Programme, "Integrated B.S(Research)-Ph.D," in interdisciplinary sciences, commencing in AY 2026–27, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020."
The course offers flexible exit options after the first year. Eligible candidates will either have a Bachelor of Science (Research) degree, pursue a one-year MS (Research), or continue the PhD programme.
Candidates with at least 3 years BSc or having completed 120 credits in a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 55% marks are eligible to apply.

The BS (Research) PhD programme is designed to provide high-impact training through strict coursework, advanced research exposure, and skill development, aligned with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, according to the official website, jncasr.ac.in.
As per the selection process, candidates will be short-listed for an interview on the basis of their Joint Admission Test for Master (JAM), Common University Admissions Test (CUET), or JNCASR 2026 entrance exam and academic performance.
The selection will be done on the basis of the interview, which will be held only in-person.
As per the university’s norms, candidates who will exit the programme after first year will be awarded with a Bachelor of Science (Research)- BS (Res.) degree in a specific subject area, while those completing 2nd year will receive a Master of Science - MS degree.
Only candidates completing 4th year or later will be conferred upon PhD degrees. Notably, these students will also receive fellowship on the basis of the center's norms.
“Ph.D students will receive travel grants up to Rs 1,00,000 as per centre’s norms, to attend international/national conferences. The students have access to on-campus doctors, physiotherapists, counsellors, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere,” the university said on its official website.
