Karnataka: Schools for students of Classes 8 to 10 reopen
School reopening: Schools in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka opened on Friday for 8-10th standard students. The classes for sixth and seventh standards would begin on September 20.

MANGALURU: After months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka opened on Friday for 8-10th standard students. A fair number of students attended the first day’s physical classes, said sources in the Education Department. Some schools reported over 60 per cent attendance.
The classes for sixth and seventh standards would begin on September 20. As per the instructions from the district administration, schools have to arrange proper sanitation and basic facilities. Schools have also been asked to arrange for the accommodation of students arriving from neighbouring Kerala. The administration has also asked the staff and teachers to attend schools with RT-PCR test negative report.

While some states are still mulling over the decision of reopening schools for the lower classes, today, the Haryana government announced school reopening for Classes 1 to 3 in the state from September 20.
The Assam government has also decided to reopen all high schools, high madrassas, residential schools, and day boarding schools for Class 10 from September 20, the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Now, as the country sees a recurring dip in COVID-19 cases, more and more states are reopening schools for lower and higher classes. Almost, all the state governments have reopened schools for at least the higher classes in their respective states. States like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka have reopened schools for physical classes for majorly Classes 9 to 12. Some states have also reopened schools for students of Classes 6 to 8.

Schools had remained shut in the country for over 17 months due to the pandemic situation. Just as they were beginning to reopen earlier this year, the second wave of COVID-19 hit that led the states to keep the schools closed.
