Maharashtra government launches MYLAP programme for skilling school students

Maharashtra Government has tied up with HCL Technologies which will offer jobs to deserving Class 12 students with annual salaries upto 2.20 lakhs.

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra government today launched Maharashtra Young Leaders' Aspiration Development Programme (MYLAP) for school students, school education minister Varsha Gaikwad informed. Under the programme, the government will collaborate with industry giants to impart professional skills to school students.

Gaikwad tweeted, “In a fast moving universe, we all want our children to be prepared to face the world with the best of skills & confidence. I firmly believe we need to invest in our future leaders. Presenting to you Maharashtra Young Leaders' Aspiration Development Programme (MYLAP/मिलाप).”

The education minister explained that “The Marathi word मिलाप means a meeting, this initiative of ours is one where industry meets the talent in our schools. The economy needs both skilled market ready professionals and those with an entrepreneurial spirit. MYLAP envisions imparting these skills in school itself.”

Under the programme, the state government has tied up with HCL Technologies for an early career programme for 20,000 students of Class 12 batches of 2021 and 2022 who've opted for Mathematics from the government schools. The company will take in deserving students at annual salaries ranging 1.70 to 2.20 lakhs.

Besides, the government has also launched Swajivi Maharashtra, a tie up with EnPower for an entrepreneurship and life skills learning model to kickstart a startup ecosystem in government schools for Classes 6-9. The pilot project, to be launched in 488 Adarsh schools, will cater to over 50,000 students.

“With the help of mentoring from master trainers and industry experts, we would love to see many of these become changemakers and future tycoons. As part of this initiative, we also plan to organize a start-up ideas challenge for our talented young stars,” Gaikwad said.

“The best part is that our students will be offered attractive higher education options while acquiring work experience,” she added.

Varsha Gaikwad further said, “These are our first big steps on our MYLAP path. Over the course of the programme, we hope to enter many more such collaborations with industry giants so that our vast pool of young talent becomes industry ready even before they leave school.”

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, MPs, MLAs and officials of education department attended the event.
