‘No entry for Homeopaths’: FAIMA backs 24-hour strike against allowing CCMP practitioners in medical council

Backing the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) Maharashtra chapter, which has declared a one-day doctor’s strike on September 18, tomorrow, FAIMA has extended its support to the agitation. The protest is against the government's move to include homeopathy practitioners in the Maharashtra Medical Council after completion of the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP).

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has condemned the move, which will allow doctors who are not trained under the ‘recognised’ MBBS curriculum to be part of the medical council.

Akshay Dongardine, president of FAIMA , said: “For the first time in recent years, all major medical associations have come together on a single platform to oppose this illogical decision. This unity shows the seriousness of our concerns. We demand the immediate withdrawal of this decision, failing which we will be left with no choice but to escalate our agitation to a national-level strike.”

Only MBBS, higher medical degrees in MCC, says IMA

The association reiterated that only MBBS graduates and those with higher medical degrees should be granted registration in the Medical council.

Citing the undermining of modern scientific medicine and a ‘series’ threat to patient safety, the doctors’ association said: “The move will compromise both the standards of healthcare and the future of the medical profession. Resident doctors across Maharashtra and India stand united in opposing this decision.”

“On behalf of FAIMA, I extend full support to the strike on 18th September 2025 against the government’s decision to allow homoeopaths into the Maharashtra Medical Council after completion of the CCMP course,” FAIMA president added.

Stating the government’s decision as ‘unacceptable’, Dongardine said that the development is dangerous for patient safety, and a direct attack on modern scientific medicine.

This battle is for the dignity of the medical profession and the protection of safe, evidence-based healthcare for every citizen, he further said.
