NEW DELHI: The secretary, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Amit Khare, had discussed the issue of ad-hoc teachers with University of Delhi (DU) Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Tyagi. In a statement issued on Friday, Khare said he has asked the VC to take adequate steps to fill vacant positions and facilitate promotion of teachers as well.
Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has been demanding a one-time regularisation of ad-hoc teachers. According to the association, as many as 4,500 ad-hoc teachers have been working in the university for over a decade.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new wing at Shivaji college, Khare assured that the ministry will “focus on resolving the challenges being faced by the teaching community”.
The university relies on ad-hoc teachers as over 5,000 teaching posts go vacant in Delhi University colleges. Such teachers are paid at the same level as assistant professors but are denied any other benefits.
As per the official statement, Shivaji college is now the second institution in DU to have a finance lab which will provide hands-on learning of different processes.
