Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has proposed to hike the MHT CET entrance exam fee by Rs 150 to Rs 250. The existing MHT CET pen-and-paper entrance exam fee currently ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 600, and for the computer-based test, from Rs 800 to 1,000, depending on the chosen subject.

The proposal has been sent to the state’s higher and technical education department for approval.

According to the Hindustan Times reports, a senior education department official informed that planning and conducting the CETs requires coordination and smooth execution. “We want to avoid putting too much burden on students. Therefore, this fee hike is proposed up to a maximum of Rs 250.” However, the final decision will be taken after detailed discussions with all authorities.

CET Cell’s primary purpose is to facilitate the admission process for professional courses such as Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Law, Medical, AYUSH, and Fine Arts.

MHT CET 2026 twice a year

Recently, the State Cell has announced that the MHT CET 2026 BTech and MBA entrance exams will be held twice a year. Maharashtra's education minister Chandrakant Patil informed that the state’s 11 CET boards will conduct MHT CET 2025 in April and May.

In 2026, the initial entrance exams for PCM, PCB, and MBA are scheduled for April, with the second set to take place in May. However, the detailed schedule for entrance exams will be announced soon.

The education minister said that students appearing for the national-level exams, such as JEE, get two chances, and the same opportunity will now be available to students in Maharashtra. Out of the two entrance exams, only one is mandatory, and the second is optional. If a student takes both exams, the higher of the two scores will be taken for admission.
