NEET 2022: Latest development in upper age limit, benefits to students

NEW DELHI: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2022 registration process is expected to begin soon by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Medical Aspirants interested in taking the medical entrance examination will have to register on the official website nta.ac.in or neet.nta.nic.in.

As per the recent developments in NEET-UG 2022, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has scrapped the upper age limit for NEET-UG medical aspirants to appear for the entrance exam, which was 25 years for unreserved candidates and 30 years for the reserved candidates.

Those wishing to pursue a medical career may benefit from NMC's decision to scrap the NEET-UG upper age limit. Based on the NMC and Dental Council of India (DCI), 554 medical colleges and 315 dental colleges in India offer 90,825 MBBS degrees, 27,948 BDS 52,720 AYUSH degrees, and 603 BVSc&AH degrees.

• There will be more opportunities for NEET UG aspirants who are older but they want to become doctors since the age limit criteria are removed.

• With the NMC's decision, interested candidates will be encouraged to appear for NEET, but it will also increase the doctor-patient ratio more significantly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

• It will strengthen our country's healthcare system to have potential NEET UG aspirants retake the exam.

• Besides this, students pursuing homeopathy or allopathy and women who had household responsibilities earlier can now pursue their MBBS dreams.

• Removing the age limit can also be an advantage to candidates seeking admission to foreign medical colleges.

According to the official, those who take the NEET test multiple times may not necessarily be better prepared than those who take it once or twice - indeed, this group appears to do better. The number of aspirants may increase when the age bar is removed, but competition and performance remain unchanged.
