NEET PG Counselling: Resident doctors will march towards SC amid mass resignation threat

NEW DELHI: Scores of resident doctors who are protesting continuously for the past 11 days have decided to march towards the Supreme Court today to expedite the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate counselling (NEET PG Counselling 2021) hearing. Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) on Saturday said its members will be forced to go for "mass resignation" from services if their demands are not met at the earliest.

Withdrawing from all services, resident doctors in Delhi lit ‘diyas’ to register their protest. On Wednesday, a large number of doctors protested outside the Nirman Bhawan , which houses the office of the Union health ministry, for the third consecutive day.

"Since no concrete measure has been taken by authorities yet in the concerned matter, it was unanimously decided to continue the agitation. During the meeting it was also discussed that protesting resident doctors across the nation will be forced to go forward with mass resignation from services, if the demand is not met at the earliest," FORDA said in a statement.

NEET PG Counselling has been already delayed by eight months and protesting doctors across the country have been pointing to the ‘acute shortage’ of resident doctors.

On December 9, the resident doctors had said they were suspending the agitation, called by the FORDA for a week following the Health Ministry's assurance to expedite court hearing and subsequently fast-tracking of the counselling process. However, on Wednesday, FORDA had written to the Union Health Minister informing him that it was resuming the stir from December 17.
