NEET UG 2025: SC dismisses plea claiming error in three questions, directs petitioner to HC

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea that claimed there were 'serious errors' in three questions asked in the NEET-UG 2025 examination. The petitioner argued these three questions were making a difference of 13 marks for him.

"These (three) questions were wrong. I have taken two expert opinions, and those experts also concur with my views. They have certified my views," the counsel of the petitioner argued.

The plea came up for hearing before a bench of Justices P S Narasimha and A S Chandurkar, which asked the counsel appearing for the petitioner to approach the concerned high court. The bench observed that the NEET exam was already over.

"You withdraw this and go to the high court. We don't want to close your remedy," the bench said.

Counsel urged to appoint an expert panel

The counsel urged to apex court to appoint a panel of experts who can give an opinion on these three questions within three days. He said the bench may take a view after hearing the opinions of a panel of experts. However, the bench showed its disinclination to entertain the plea, so the petitioner's counsel withdrew it. Previously, on July 4, the apex court declined to entertain a separate petition challenging the NEET-UG 2025 results due to an alleged error in one of the questions.

No irregularities in NEET UG 2025: Govt

In a recent reply to the Lok Sabha, the ministry of education said the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been conducting the national-level medical entrance exam on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for admission to undergraduate (UG) medical courses in institutions since 2019.

NTA informed that a mechanism is followed to detect and prevent any alteration in OMR sheets and scorecards. The OMR sheets have multiple built-in security features that make any form of tampering easily identifiable. The introduction of built-in QR codes for authentication of results ensures credibility and safeguards the interests of candidates.

Furthermore, to promote transparency and as part of the standard NEET 2025 answer key challenge process, the scanned images of the OMR answer sheets of all candidates who appeared are made available on the official website.

NEET UG counselling process 2025

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has commenced the NEET UG counselling 2025 process for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats till August 3. As per the revised schedule, the seat allotment results will be declared on August 6.

NEET-UG was conducted for more than 22 lakh candidates at 5,468 different centres located in 552 cities on May 4 for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
