Try NowChennai: The stage is set across Tamil Nadu for the NEET re-examination on Sunday, with more than 1.4 lakh medical aspirants from the state expected to appear for the test, official sources said. Following the cancellation of the May 3 test due to alleged irregularities and paper leak, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has rescheduled the NEET exam on June 21. NTA sources said that NEET will be conducted in more than 307 centres across 31 districts of the state and Chennai alone has 43 centres.

Across India, more than 22 lakh students will appear for the eligibility test this year, with Tamil Nadu continuing to be one of the states with the highest number of applicants. Each aspirant, who will be appearing for NEET, will undergo a strict series of biometric verification, which includes digital fingerprinting and facial recognition at the entrance of the exam centres.

NEET question papers were airlifted by IAF and made available at centralised centres such as Madurai and Tirunelveli. Amid strict vigil by police, the question papers will be transported by authorities to the local exam centres. Police sources said tight security arrangements have been made at all exam centres. The NTA had conducted two video conferences on June 15 and 18 to assess the preparedness of states to conduct the exam on June 21 in a free and fair manner.
