NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan while attending the roundtable on implementing National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at Symbiosis International University at Pune said that NEP 2020 is a knowledge document of the 21st century. According to him, the objective of the policy is to promote the development of people and to make education accessible.
"India has become the epicentre of the knowledge-based economy and our contribution to the global economy is significant. The ubiquity of technology and digital economies have made the world a small village. Today we are at the crossroads of an emerging new global order," he said.
According to him, the readiness for the future will depend upon how well the technology and automation are harnessed and on acquiring new skills of work as well as for a leadership role in the emerging new global order. There is a huge opportunity for all of us here, especially for our academic community, he added.

Pradhan also said that the education system in India was rigid in the past and had put a restriction on multi-disciplinary education. According to him, NEP2020 has made education "vibrant, inclusive, flexible and multi-disciplinary." Pradhan stressed on the importance to walk on the path of ‘duties.’
He said that the teaching fraternity should build new academic dynamics for developing quality e-learning content. He spoke on the importance of developing SOPs and said that online learning should not be limited to exploitative market forces. He stressed on the importance of protecting against data imperialism.
