NMC announces relaxation for BCMET completion for faculty promotion in medical colleges
NMC has given relaxation for completion of the BCMET for one year for promotion to professor, assistant professor posts in medical colleges.

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced relaxation for completion of Basic Course in Medical Education and Technology (BCMET) for one year. The decision comes after the medical commission received many representations from medical colleges regarding non-availability of slots for the BCMET from the designated institutions.

The teachers eligibility qualifications in medical institutions regulations 2022 stipulates norms for faculty appointment and promotion in broad specialities (MD/MS) and super specialties (DM/MCh) is permitted by medical colleges.
For promotion to the post of professor or assistant professor, the faculty should have completed the Basic Course in Medical Education and Technology (BCMET) from an institution designated by the National Medical Commission, the official notice read.
Due to the non-availability of slots for the BCMET, many faculty were not getting promoted. The NMC said, “To obviate the difficulties being faced by the faculty, it has been decided to give relaxation for completion of the BCMET for one year from the date of issue of the notice.” The notice was issued by the NMC on July 25, 2022.

The notice further read, “The faculty availing this relaxation will have to complete the said course within three years from the date of promotion. The faculty which has already been promoted earlier on such relaxation, will also have to complete the BCMET within three years from the date of promotion.”
