NMC asks medical colleges to implement new CBME curriculum for MBBS students

NMC also asked colleges, universities to amalgamate old and new MBBS students in Competency Based Medical Education course curriculum.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all states, union territories (UTs), universities and medical colleges or institutes to take immediate steps to implement the new Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) course curriculum for MBBS students admitted in the months of February-March in 2021-22 batch.
The new CBME for UG course curriculum was discussed in detail in the 6th meeting of the NMC which was held on March 24, 2022. After detailed discussion and deliberation, it has been unanimously decided in the said meeting of the Commission to implement new CBME education from the 2021-22 batch of MBBS students who were admitted in the month February-March 2021, said an official notice from NMC.

CBME is being implemented with the aim of covering all three domains of learning (cognitive, affective and psychomotor). “The new course curriculum introduced in 2019 enriches the medical student with a sound base and balanced approach to the overall aspect with the introduction of a foundation course which includes Family Adoption Programme, Yoga, meditation, local language adaptation and skills,” NMC said.
NMC also shared guidelines for implementation of the CBME curriculum for MBBS students. While sharing the guidelines, the Commission informed that it will notify the details and guidelines on National Exit Test (NExT) soon.
In another notice, the Commission said that it has also been decided that the old and new batch of MBBS students should be amalgamated in the new CBME curriculum for MBBS students. NMC asked registrars of universities, deans and principals of colleges to complete required formalities regarding the amalgamation on priority.
