NMC invites comments on draft amendment in establishment of medical college regulations

According to NMC’s draft amendment, universities having medical colleges, 1000-bed hospitals don’t need fully functional hospitals.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has invited public comments on the draft amendment in Establishment of Medical College Regulations. The Commission has asked medical institutions, concerned persons to share the feedback within a month.
“The public comments on the Draft Establishment of Medical College Regulations, (Amendment), 2022 may be shared at the following email ID - ugmeb@nmc.org.in in MS Word format or machine readable PDF format within 30 days of publishing of this notice,” read NMC’s notification.

According to the draft on amendment in regulations, NMC has added these regulations in the qualifying criteria:
The condition of ‘fully functional hospital for a minimum period of 2 years’ shall not apply in case of universities or deemed to be universities within the meaning of University Grants Commission Act, 1956, having experience of establishing and running fully functional recognized medical colleges and hospital of 1000 beds or more, for at least two years, anywhere in India, provided that:
- The building of both the hospital and the medical college is owned and managed by the same organisation.
- The building of the proposed medical college has not been used for any other purpose before making an application to the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC for establishment of new medical colleges.
- At the time of application, it has an established multi-specialty hospital with at least 1000 in-patient beds and fulfilling all other norms under the regulation.
