Rajasthan Anganwadi Centres merge with government schools to provide pre-school education: Report
Anganwadi Centres in Rajasthan have merged with schools to provide pre-school education to children of 3 to 5 years in age.

NEW DELHI: In a first, Anganwadi Centres in Rajasthan have merged with government schools to provide pre-school education to kids of 3-5 age group, as per a Times of India report.
Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT), Udaipur is working on providing healthcare, nutrition and education wherein the role of Anganwadis is to take care of pregnant women, lactating mothers and children upto five years of age, the report said.

As per the report, 12,000 schools have already been merged into government schools in the last two years. 19,000 more schools are remaining that will be merged in different phases with an objective to provide pre-school learning.
Kamlendra Singh Ranawat, public relations officer at RSCERT said that the council is working on a readiness package for the anganwadis to merge them smoothly with the schools.

Ranawat added that the state experts have been working on a framework to ensure that these children are ready to move to Class 1.
The report said that most of the students enrolled in the Anganwadi Centres come from the economically weaker strata of the society or from rural regions. Most of the centres have been running in temporary spaces, rented spaces by workers of the centres who do not have a training of teaching pre-school children.
Priyanka Jodhawat, director of RSCERT, said that the merger of Anganwadi centres and government schools aims to teach the students from age three to five to match the level of Class 1.

By this integration, not only will the Anganwadi centres access to better school facilities such as proper classrooms, toilets, computers, libraries but will also provide trained teachers from schools, Jodhawat said.
