NEW DELHI : Samagra Shiksha Kerala will begin training workshops for lower primary, upper primary and higher secondary teachers in preparation of the State Curriculum Framework that is expected to be released next week.

The workshops will place special focus on foundational learning of students in Classes 1 to 4. It will focus on foundational language skills for Classes 1 to 2, mathematics for Class 3 and English language for Class 4.

The workshop will also focus on the mental, physical, social and emotional development of students in secondary and higher secondary classes.

Kerala has framed its SCF independent of the union government's National Curriculum Framework (NCF) , parts of which – the ones for foundational learning and school education – have been released.

It will also train teachers on incorporating virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence(AI) in the teaching and learning process, the general education department said.

The workshop will discuss the creation of an academic master plan in schools that will focus on developing an inclusive atmosphere for differently abled students and special training classes for out-of-school students.

Kerala general education minister V Sivankutty will be inaugurating the teachers’ conferences that will be held in two phases. Kerala State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has already prepared modules for the workshops, the general education department said in a statement.

The workshops will focus on creating an academic atmosphere that will imbibe critical thinking and curiosity among the students, the department said.

Kerala is expected to launch the State Curriculum Framework by May 15. The central government had launched the draft National Curriculum Framework (NCF) in April.
