Schools, colleges to remain closed today in Kashmir due to torrential rains

The office of the divisional commissioner Kashmir issued an advisory and informed that the water levels in the rivers are rising and rains are expected to continue till mid-day, citing Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) report.
In view of the incessant rainfall across the Kashmir valley, schools and colleges will remain closed today, September 3, as per the official announcement made by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

“In view of inclement weather conditions, schools and colleges across Kashmir division shall remain closed today on 03.09.2025 as a precautionary measure: Div Comm Kashmir,” as per the statement issued on the official X account.
Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, director school education, has also issued advisories warning of "heavy rainfall, landslides, flash floods, cloudburst, etc" which could eventually lead to severe waterlogging, water-containment in low-lying ares, and damaged roads and school buildings, as per the report by ANI.

Government, private schools closed today
"To ensure the safety of students and staff, it is hereby ordered that all Government and Private schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed on 03-09-2025," the government order stated, reported by ANI.
The government has also advised people to exercise caution and not venture near water bodies. It has also released emergency contact numbers "112/6005953255" for any emergency situation.
Moreover, the northern railway has also cancelled around 68 incoming and outgoing trains from Jammu and Katra stations till September 30, while 24 will resume tomorrow, as per a report by PTI.
While the torrential rains have disrupted rail and road traffic, around 34 people lost their lives during a landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, the report added.
"To facilitate the movement of stranded passengers, the following train services are being run: Jammu Tawi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (2 shuttle services), Jammu Tawi-Kolkata, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi," as per the report, citing officials.
