SRMIST holds 22nd Convocation 2026, confers 8,084 degrees at Kattankulathur, Vadapalani

7,926 undergraduate and postgraduates and 158 PhD scholars degrees conferred in both the campuses
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) held its 22nd Convocation-2026 for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the T. P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur campus.
The ceremony was presided over by founder chancellor T.R. Paarivendhar and attended by Ravi Pachamuthu, Pro-Chancellor (Administration); P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics); and members of the executive and academic councils.
A total of 11,684 graduates across SRMIST campuses were eligible to receive degrees this year under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. At the Kattankulathur and Vadapalani campuses, 8,084 degrees were conferred, including 7,926 undergraduate and postgraduates and 158 PhD scholars.
Vice President urges graduates to serve society
C.P. Radhakrishnan, Vice President of India, delivered the convocation address and urged graduates to use their knowledge and innovation for the benefit of society.
He said, “Research achieves its highest purpose when it serves society. Let your knowledge and innovation create solutions that improve lives and contribute to the welfare of humanity.”
The VP called on the graduates to make "Nation First-Rashtra Prathem" their guiding principle. He urged them to use their knowledge, innovation and hard work for the progress, security and prosperity of Bharat while upholding constitutional values, respecting diversity and strengthening national unity.
Founder Chancellor statue unveiled at museum
During his visit to the institution, the Vice President unveiled a 32-foot statue of Founder Chancellor T.R. Paarivendhar at the vendhar museum. The unveiling marked the institution's recognition of the founder chancellor's legacy and contributions.
Thiru Rajendra Vishwasnath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of graduates in the country's future.
He said, “You are the future of our country. Whatever knowledge, technology, and learning you gain must be used in the interest of society, the people, and the nation.”
Mahindra executive receives honorary degree
R. Velusamy President-Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra limited, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) by SRMIST in recognition of his leadership in the automotive and mobility industry.
Addressing the gathering, Velusamy encouraged graduates to contribute to India;s leadership in innovation. “India should not only follow the world, it should lead it. The next big idea the world sees from India could come from someone sitting here today.”
SRMIST highlights research and innovation
C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, highlighted the institution’s academic, research, innovation and outreach milestones over the past year.
Speaking about the upcoming electronic cooling centre, he said, “As India scales AI compute, semiconductor packaging, and electric mobility, thermal management is becoming the critical foundation for sustainable growth."
"Every high-density chip and EV power module depends on efficient cooling. Through the upcoming Electronic Cooling Centre, SRMIST is investing in this foundational capability, helping build the thermal technologies that will enable India’s chip, AI, and mobility ambitions to scale,” he added further.
A total of 147 rank medalists were also honoured for securing first, second and third ranks in their respective programmes.
The Vice Chancellor administered a pledge against drugs to the graduates and students, highlighting the importance of responsible choices and a healthy future for the nation.
