All rounds of counselling will be held online by state or central counselling authority and no medical college will admit any candidate independently, NMC stated.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) is verifying the admission process of 1,04,891 students admitted in medical colleges course for the academic year 2023-24. Students who are admitted to medical colleges through offline mode during stray vacancy rounds face admission cancellation threat.
"It is informed that even though such students whose names are reflected in the final list of 1,04,891 admitted students in MBBS course for the academic year 2023-24, the admissions will still be cancelled at later stage once the verification of admission process is completed by the NMC,” the official notification said.
The commission has directed that the centralised merit list be used to determine online allocation for even the remaining seats that were granted during the previous 'stray vacancy or mop-up rounds.'
The purpose of this mandate is to stop the practice of "seat buying," in which institutions would assign the remaining seats to students who scored lower on the merit list in exchange for larger fees.
"All rounds of counselling for all seats will be held in online mode by state or central counselling authority and no medical college/institution will admit any candidate themselves," it said.
NMC has issued new regulations for post-graduate medical admissions, emphasising that admissions will be exclusively conducted through common counselling based on the merit lists of respective exams.

All students will have to undergo courses in research methodology, ethics and cardiac life support skills. "For better implementation of these regulations, there is provision of penalty clause which includes monetary penalty, reduction in number of seats( admission capacity) or complete stoppage of admissions," the regulations stated.
Medical colleges must disclose the fees of each course prior to the commencement of the counselling process. Notably, the NMC has made it clear that no medical college has the right to independently admit candidates.
