Telangana CM calls for assembly debate on strengthening intermediate education; seeks plan to curb dropouts

NEW DELHI: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said his government would initiate a debate in the Legislative Assembly on improving intermediate education in the state. During a meeting with officials, Reddy urged them to take steps to ensure that every student who passes 10th standard completes Intermediate (by addressing the issue of dropouts).

He expressed concern over the discrepancy between the number of students passing class 10 and those completing intermediate (11th and 12th). Officials apprised him that states which include education from class 9 to 12 as part of a continuous school education system have reported a reduction in student dropouts. Reddy directed the officials to submit a report on the education provided upto 12th standard being considered as school education, an official release said.

Intermediate education debate proposed

In Telangana, Class 6 to 10 is considered high school education and institutions offering Intermediate (11th and 12th) are known as junior colleges. Favouring a debate on enhancing intermediate education, Reddy said it would be discussed in the Legislative Assembly. Speaking at an event after inaugurating a new hospital of the AIG Hospitals in the city, the CM said Hyderabad would promoted as a medical tourism hub.

Health Tourism would be included in the 'TelanganaRising 2047' vision document being prepared by the state government, he said. He also said the government is planning to provide free medical care and quality education to the poor.
