The NCC cadets are involved in training for the Republic Day Camp during the months of November and December, as a result they miss semester classes.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) in a letter asked all higher educational institutions to make provision for special examinations for the cadets enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as they miss their semester exams because of Republic Day training camps every year.
In a letter to vice-chancellors, directors of universities, the UGC said, “It has been brought to the notice of UGC that the NCC cadets are involved in preparation/training camps for the Republic Day Camp during the months of November and December every year. The NCC cadets/volunteers are facing problems for selfless services they render, by virtue of which they miss their semester classes.”

The UGC has requested all higher educational institutions to take appropriate steps to hold special exams for NCC cadets and not as candidates appearing for re-test.
“Looking into this, special examinations should be conducted on separate dates for NCC cadets and not as candidates appearing for re-test,” the UGC said.
The UGC further said that the NCC activities involve multiplicity of responsibilities in the central government, the education department and the state governments and the NCC. The volunteers of NCC are actively involved in various nation building activities, it added.
