UGC bans Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University from enrolling PhD students for the next five years.
NEW DELHI: Rajasthan’s Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University has become the fourth university in the state to lose University Grants Commission (UGC)’s approval to offer PhD programmes for five years. The commission took the decision after finding out that the Jhunjhunu-based university is also violating UGC PhD regulations.
Recently, UGC barred three Rajasthan universities including OPJS University , Sunrise University, and Singhania University from enrolling PhD students for the next five years, from the academic session 2025-26 to 2029-30.
The commission has advised aspirants and their students not to take admission in the PhD programmes offered by the university from now onwards, as in the absence of UGC approval, the degree stands invalid or unrecognized for higher education and employment.
The commission has informed the university about this decision of UGC and directed it to immediately discontinue enrolling PhD students. In view of a committee’s recommendations, the commission decided to debar JJTU from enrolling scholars under its PhD programme for the next five years.
UGC regulations violated
While the university was given an opportunity to explain the failure to comply with the provisions, the UGC panel did not find the response satisfactory. “The standing committee has, thus, recommended that the UGC may debar Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University, Chudela, Jhunjhunu. Rajasthan from enrolling PhD students for the next five years,” said UGC.
The standing committee formed by UGC to suggest corrective measures and recommend actions against erring universities, analysed the information submitted by the university and found that JJTU didn’t follow the UGC regulations and academic rules for the award of PhD degrees.
