1,060 MBBS students who went abroad without eligibility certificate get 3-day time to apply

NEW DELHI : The National Medical Commission has provided 3-day time to MBBS students who went to study abroad to apply for an eligibility certificate. The commission observed 1,060 such students are studying medicine abroad without the mandatory certificate.

In December last year, NMC had provided 10-day time to 972 MBBS students who were found to be studying abroad without the eligibility certificate. The commission has once again released the list of defaulters having each candidate’s name, their father’s name, and application number.

The Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) found the deficiencies in applications after a review process and said, “It is observed that applicants whose name is mentioned have proceeded abroad without obtaining an eligibility certificate. Therefore, it has been decided by the board to give 3 days time to all such applicants to submit their deficiencies through the eligibility portal of NMC.”

The board stated that in case such candidates do not submit their deficiencies or applications within the deadline, their applications will be rejected.

Earlier too, the commission had explained that a section of the Medical Council of India Act, 1956 says that an Indian citizen will not be eligible for MBBS admission in a medical institute in any foreign country without an eligibility certificate by the council after the date specified by the government. Qualifying the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) exam will be treated as the eligibility certificate for students to seek MBBS admission in foreign institutes.

“Timely rectification of the deficiencies will expedite the processing of the eligibility certificates otherwise found fit for grant of such Certificates and help the applicants move forward with their respective endeavors,” NMC further said.
