AICTE, DST launch MTech in quantum technologies; programme covers computing, communication, sensing

The programme integrates theoretical learning, hands-on training, applied research, and experience with real-world challenges in quantum technologies.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in collaboration with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has launched a Master of Technology (MTech) programme in Quantum Technologies under the National Quantum Mission. The course combines theoretical knowledge, practical training, applied research, and exposure to real-world challenges in quantum technologies.
The MTech programme curriculum focuses on key areas including quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing. According to the official press release, it is designed to develop a skilled workforce capable of serving as researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders in the expanding global quantum ecosystem.
The launch event was attended by AK Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST; TG Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE; Ajai Chowdhry, Co-Founder, HCL Technologies; Shyama Rath, Member Secretary, AICTE; and other senior officials from DST and AICTE.

While talking about the programme, TG Sitharam, said, “Quantum technology will redefine computing, communication, and sensing. Through this curriculum, we aim to nurture a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and fulfill the goals of the National Quantum Mission.”
Highlighting India’s academic potential AK Sood, noted that the programme spans all quantum technology verticals and provides an adaptable and inclusive framework for students, making quantum technologies a viable career option.
As per the official press release, AICTE and DST have called on universities and technical institutions across India to adopt the programme to build capacity and ensure a steady flow of trained professionals to advance India’s position in the global quantum technology landscape.
